Why I write

I’m sometimes asked why I write. While I have always enjoyed developing story ideas, mechanical designs, and doing technical documentation, I never considered myself an “author”. As I have grown older and wiser I began to think about all the missed opportunities because I lacked certain knowledge.  Who else regrets not buying Apple stock in the 90s?

While I had ‘mentors’ and many teachers, I didn’t always appreciate the wisdom in some of their advice. Yes, I heard what they said, but the arrogance of youth sometimes clouds sound judgment and decisions. In my younger days, if you wanted to learn something, you went to school or an apprenticeship to gain the knowledge. Most of the books available at the time were classics, biographies, and a plethora of pulp fiction paperback novels.

Part of age and ‘wisdom’ comes from making mistakes or bad decisions. But you can offset that by taking the initiative to understand yourself better and learn all you can from others who have learned that lesson and are letting you know how to avoid some of the pitfalls. Read and absorb all you can and learn to tell bullsh*t from fact.

The problem is that everyone these days is a wise guy. All it takes is a quick ‘hey google’ to get a question answered and form an opinion. Many fail to understand that there will always be more you don’t know than you do. Sometimes it takes a life event that serves as a wakeup call, and all too often those events involve ignorance and/or alcohol.

I added becoming a published author to my bucket list. I invested in a course from Publishing.com that focuses on non-fiction. I have since published two books and created a publishing company. I have settled on the self-help and spiritual development niches. I wanted to pass on some of the tough-earned knowledge and hopefully prevent someone from making serious life mistakes.

I know it’s a challenging field, but I’m not doing it for money, even though that would be nice. As Jesus explained to his disciples about the parable of the Sower, I felt that if I could impart some knowledge and wisdom to help even one person, then it would be worth the effort.

I went in search of God and found only myself. I went in search of myself and found only God

Rumi

One of the secrets I hope to share with anyone who will listen is that I have found God, but not through ‘religion.’ The only way to truly experience the love and presence is by looking inside yourself.

Jesus and many others have told us that the kingdom of God is here, within us. Let those who have ears listen. Don’t chase something that is with you all the time. If you learn to quiet your egoic mind, you can tap into that infinite love and light. You don’t need a church to find salvation, but you do have to find God.

Another secret is that we are all connected. Quantum physics explains this and other heady stuff with ‘entanglement’, which basically means everything is connected.  Anything you do affects others, even if in a very small way. This connectedness is even more dynamic than you think as anyone not living under a rock can feel the tension that this political cycle has produced. Believe it or not we have a collective consciousness. Our planet, Earth, is a living organism some refer to as Gaia or Mother. The complex energies of all living organisms and inanimate objects make up this system and are but a tiny, tiny piece of just our solar system, much less the Milky Way and beyond. Most humans simply cannot comprehend our known universe’s vast distances and immensity. Now we are hearing about things like the Multiverse, which may not be as fictional as we think.

We as a species have only had a peek behind the curtain, and if we do eventually get to step behind it, we will find that God is much more awesome than our feeble minds can possibly imagine.

It could not have been the Creator’s intent to set us against each other, but as we know, God is no respecter of persons and brings sunshine and rain on sinners and saints. We have been given free will and a brain that allows for reasoning. Of course, there are too many individuals who will take advantage of average people, exploit them for money and power, and ruthlessly suppress those who resist.

All this to say that the vision to provide books and content that promote a positive evolution in a spiritual way that promotes what Jesus was actually talking about – love everyone, be tolerant, welcome strangers, care for the sick and disadvantaged and give thanks to God!
